Koh Samet, an amazing weekend beach getaway

Need a break from chaos city but you only have a weekend to spend? Are you thinking about a weekend beach getaway? If yes, where is the closest paradise where offers you a brilliant time which will not take forever to get there from Bangkok or nearby? Here is a good option for you guys to release pressure from your life – Koh Samet . “Koh Samet”, also spelled “Koh Samed” – it’s a gorgeous island in the Eastern Gulf Coast, which is famed for its white silky beaches and crystal clear sea.

How do I get from Bangkok to Koh Samet? Taking a bus is the easiest option. From Ekkamai bus station in Bangkok – it takes about 3 hours and costs 173 Baht (6$) to get to Ban Phe, Rayong which terminates opposite the ferry pier.

(NOTE: There is no direct bus from Mo Chit bus station, it only takes you to Rayong then you need a Songthaew (local bus) costs about 20 bath (1$) to Ban Phe.)

What’s next? There are many different boats (slow boats and speedboats) that can take us across to the island from Ban Phe or Nuan Thip which takes around 30-45 minutes for slow boats. A one-way ticket for slow boats costs 50 baht (1.5$). You don’t need to buy a round-way ticket, as there is no discount. To be honest, I get seasick quite easily so my choice was not getting to Koh Samet by a speedboat but a slow boat, much calmer!. Anyways the boats seem to wait until full so their timetable is more like a hint rather than a fixed departure time. FYI, Koh Samet is a national Park so there is usually a fee that foreigners need to pay when you arrive. Entering fee costs 200 baht (6.5$) and children cost only 100 baht (about 3$). Thais pay less so please don’t be upset to us as we already pay income tax!!

Where to chill on “Koh Samet”? Koh Samet is a laid-back island paradise where the focus isn’t on doing actual activities, it’s more on enjoying white sandy beaches. Most beaches are on the eastern side of the island. These are some favorite beaches I always visit on Koh Samet.

Hat Sai Kaew: one of the most beautiful and most popular beaches on Koh Samet. It’s a fine beach filled with a lot of hotel options, restaurants, and bars. Moreover, there are some activities such as jet skiing, windsurfing, riding on banana boats, sunbathing or even partying at night.

Ao Phai: my favorite small beach offers white silky sand and warm turquoise water; This is where I usually stay to work on my tan and relax. Especially, it is more suitable to my need to get away from the crowd. There are some awesome restaurants that I can get fresh seafood for dinner under the moonlight while watching fire shows, and also there are a few bars where I can go wild with friends to make my weekend beach getaway perfect 😛

Ao Phrao: is one of reasons why I never get bored of visiting Koh Samet. Ao Phrao is the only beach on the western side that provides us with the best sunset view of Koh Samed. Don’t you think getting some tropical drinks while watching the sunset makes your weekend memorable? 😉

Hope my idea where to chill for a weekend break from Bangkok makes an easy decision for you guys to appreciate your time with friends and family. Please feel free to share your amazing places to get rid of the stress with me. Can’t wait to hear from you. Mwah x
