“Chiang Rai, Thailand ” an impressive place I would love to settle down

Chiang Rai is the northernmost city in Thailand, it’s a great place to see true northern Thai culture. What month is best to visit Chiang Rai? I recommend visiting there in December or January, as these months are the coldest winter months.

How do I get from Bangkok to Chiang Rai? I went there with my family before having my new life in Malaysia so our choice was getting there by car. If you have enough time and you’re on a budget, taking a bus is the cheapest and easiest option you can do. There are lots of buses to Chiang Rai from Bangkok at Mo Chit bus station.

How long does it take? It takes about 11 hours and costs around 800 baht (about $30) which this long journey and mostly through the night, you could have some sleep and wake up with a stunning sunrise in the beautiful northern Thailand.

Things to see in Chiang Rai?

Wat Rong Khun – The number one thing to see! It’s a unique white buddhist temple created by an artist (Chalermchai Kositpipat). Every scene has its own story which talks about hell on earth passing across the bridge into heaven. Even though I have seen too many temples to count, I was so impressed how magnificent the temple is as it is not only a breath-taking look of building structures but also a work of art that implies things for us to think of.

Mae Fah Luang Garden – What a fabulous garden! It’s located in Chiang Rai’s Doi Tung district, close to the Burmese border town of Mae Sai. This flowers are not only beautiful but have lots of varieties from roses to local beautiful plants. Coming here made me feel super relaxed with the fresh air and the climate. If you enjoy beautiful walks through elegant gardens, feeling spacious and refreshing, Mae Fah Luang Garden will not disappoint you I can guarantee.

Clock Tower – a must see in the night. An amazing clock tower placed in the middle of crossroads close to Chiang Rai’s night bazaar designed by Wat Rong Khun artist. You should watch it at 7PM or 8PM when the clock strikes as there is a lightshow with thai music. It completely amazed me while I was chillin’ with a cup of hot fresh coffee. I totally forgot all pressure I had in from my home in the manic Bangkok city.

Wat Phrathat Doi Tung – to access the temple is possible via a long and winding road that runs about 20 kilometers along the mountainside. The main objects of interest at the temple are a pair of chedis that are thought to date to the original construction, even though they were renovated in1960s. As soon as I stepped into the temple I could feel the peace and totally fell in love with Lanna style. Here is another place in Chiang Rai I would love to visit again.

Suan Tung Lae Khom – It’s an unforgettable garden in the heart of Chiang Rai, decorated with thousands of beautiful winter flowers. I was lost with the beauty of tulips, roses and lilies, among other varieties of flowers under the moonshine. My long day walking around Chiang Rai was alive again without question.

A must eat in Chiang Rai? “Khao Soi” is a curry noodle dish often made with chicken, served over  Chinese Bah-mi egg noodle, and garnished with fried noodles, fried whole chilies and a squeeze of lime juice. Just thinking of it makes my mouth water 😛
